An-Nawawi's monumental commentary on ash-Shirazi's al-Muhadhdhab, widely considered the greatest work of comparative fiqh in the Shafi'i tradition. An-Nawawi completed only a portion before his death, but the existing volumes are encyclopedic in scope, discussing the evidence from Quran, Sunnah, and scholarly consensus for each ruling and presenting opinions from all four schools. Later scholars continued the work.
