The primary reference work for the Maliki school of jurisprudence. Sahnun compiled it from the legal responses of Ibn al-Qasim, Imam Malik's most prominent student, covering the entire spectrum of Islamic legal rulings. The work preserves Imam Malik's positions as transmitted through his student and became the most authoritative reference for Maliki jurists in North Africa and beyond.
