أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ أَوْ سَ

Body (Matn)

مُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ :" أَيُّمَا امْرَأَةٍ زَوَّجَهَا وَلِيَّانِ لَهَا، فَهِيَ لِلْأَوَّلِ مِنْهُمَا، وَأَيُّمَا رَجُلٍ بَاعَ بَيْعًا مِنْ رَجُلَيْنِ، فَهُوَ لِلْأَوَّلِ مِنْهُمَا ". حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّان ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، بِنَحْوِهِ

English Translation

Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'Do not make the mahr of women excessively large, for if it were a matter of nobility in this world or piety before Allah, the Prophet ﷺ would have been most deserving of it. Yet the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not give any of his wives, and no one of his daughters was given, more than twelve uqiyyah.'
