Chain of Narration (Isnad)

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى ، عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، قالَ : بَيْنَمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّ

Body (Matn)

هُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي حُجْرَةٍ وَمَعَهُ مِدْرى يَحُكُّ بِهِ رَأْسَهُ، اطَّلَعَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" لَوْ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَنْظُرُ لَقُمْتُ حَتَّى أَطْعَنَ بِهِ عَيْنَيْكَ. إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الْإِذْنُ مِنْ أَجْلِ النَّظَرِ "

English Translation

It was narrated from Sahl ibn Sad (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in a room with an iron comb scratching his head, a man peeked in at him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "If I knew that you were looking I would have stood up and stabbed it in your eyes. Seeking permission to enter has only been prescribed because of looking."'
