English Translation

It was narrated from Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was asked about prayer times during the era of al-Hajjaj, who used to delay the prayers. Jabir said: 'The Prophet ﷺ used to pray Dhuhr when the sun had passed its meridian, Asr while the sun was still high and clear, Maghrib when the sun had set, and Isha — sometimes he would hasten it and sometimes delay it: when the people had gathered he would hasten it, and when they were late he would delay it — and Fajr he used to pray in the darkness before dawn.'
