Hadith #582
Arabic Text
أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهِ عَنْهُ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَكِبَ فَرَسًا فَصُرِعَ عَنْهُ، فَجُحِشَ شِقُّهُ الْأَيْمَنُ، فَصَلَّى صَلَاةً مِنْ الصَّلَوَاتِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ، فَصَلَّيْنَا مَعَهُ جُلُوسًا، فَلَم
َّا انْصَرَفَ، قَالَ : " إِنَّمَاجُعِلَ الْإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ، فَلَا تَخْتَلِفُوا عَلَيْهِ، فَإِذَا صَلَّى قَائِمًا، فَصَلُّوا قِيَامًا، وَإِذَا رَكَعَ فَارْكَعُوا، وَإِذَا رَفَعَ، فَارْفَعُوا، وَإِذَا قَالَ : سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ، فَقُولُوا : رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ، وَإِنْ صَلَّى قَاعِدًا، فَصَلُّوا قُعُودًا أَجْمَعُونَ "

English Translation
It was narrated from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rode a horse and was thrown from it, so his right side was abraded. He led the prayer sitting, and we prayed sitting behind him. When he finished, he said: 'The imam is appointed to be followed, so when he prays standing, pray standing, and when he prays sitting, pray sitting.'
