Arabic Text
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، عَنْ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، وَعُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّ حَكِيمَ بْنَ حِزَامٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللّ
َهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَعْطَانِي، ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُهُ فَأَعْطَانِي، ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُهُ فَأَعْطَانِي، ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا حَكِيمُ،إِنَّ هَذَا الْمَالَ خَضِرٌ حُلْوٌ، فَمَنْ أَخَذَهُ بِسَخَاوَةِ نَفْسٍ، بُورِكَ لَهُ فِيهِ، وَمَنْ أَخَذَهُ بِإِشْرَافِ نَفْسٍ، لَمْ يُبَارَكْ لَهُ فِيهِ، وَكَانَ كَالَّذِي يَأْكُلُ وَلَا يَشْبَعُ، وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى "

English Translation
It was narrated from Hakim ibn Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) that he asked the Messenger of Allah ☯ for something and he gave him, then he asked again and he gave, then asked again and he gave, then asked again, so the Messenger of Allah ☯ said: 'O Hakim, this wealth is green and sweet. Whoever takes it with a generous soul will be blessed in it, and whoever takes it with a craving soul will not be blessed — like one who eats but is never satisfied. The upper hand is better than the lower hand.'
