حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ : أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا خَالِدٍ عَامِرَ بْنَ جَ
شِيبٍ ، وَبَحِيرَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ ، يُحَدِّثَانِ : أَنَّ خَالِدَ بْنَ مَعْدَانَ ، قَالَ :" إِنَّ # الم { 1 } تَنْزِيلُ الْكِتَابِ لا رَيْبَ فِيهِ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ { 2 } سورة السجدة آية 1-2 # تُجَادِلُ عَنْ صَاحِبِهَا فِي الْقَبْرِ، تَقُولُ : اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتُ مِنْ كِتَابِكَ، فَشَفِّعْنِي فِيهِ، وَإِنْ لَمْ أَكُنْ مِنْ كِتَابِكَ، فَامْحُنِي عَنْهُ، وَإِنَّهَا تَكُونُ كَالطَّيْرِ تَجْعَلُ جَنَاحَهَا عَلَيْهِ، فَيُشْفَعُ لَهُ، فَتَمْنَعُهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، وَفِي ( تَبَارَكَ ) مِثْلَهُ"، فَكَانَ خَالِدٌ لَا يَبِيتُ حَتَّى يَقْرَأَ بِهِمَا

English Translation
It was narrated from Khalid ibn Ma'dan that he said: "'Alif Lam Tanzil al-Kitab la rayba fihi min rabb al-'alamin' (Surah al-Sajdah: 1-2) will dispute on behalf of its companion in the grave, saying: 'O Allah, if I am from Your Book, then grant me intercession for him; and if I am not from Your Book, then erase me from it.' It will be like a bird spreading its wing over him, and its intercession shall be accepted — protecting him from the punishment of the grave. And Surah al-Mulk has the same virtue." Khalid never slept without reciting both surahs.
