Hadith #1081

English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Dhar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'We fasted Ramadan with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He did not lead us in prayer at any part of the month until seven nights remained, when he led us in prayer until a third of the night had passed. When six nights remained, he did not lead us. When five nights remained, he led us until half of the night was gone. We said: "O Messenger of Allah, if only you would add the rest of this night." He said: "When a man prays with the imam until he finishes, it is counted for him as the prayer of the whole night." On the third night he gathered his family, his wives, and the people, and led us in prayer until we feared we would miss the Falah." We asked: "What is the Falah?" He said: "The suhur (pre-dawn meal)." Then he did not lead us in prayer for the rest of the month.'
