The Book of Clothes and Adornment

حَدَّثَنِي سَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَعْيَنَ، حَدَّثَ
نَا مَعْقِلٌ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ فِي غَزْوَةٍ غَزَوْنَاهَا " اسْتَكْثِرُوا مِنَ النِّعَالِ فَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لاَ يَزَالُ رَاكِبًا مَا انْتَعَلَ " .

English Translation
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that i heard Allah's Apostle ﷺ saying during an expedition in which we also participated: Make a general practice of wearing sandals, for a man is riding as it were when he wears sandals
