English Translation

Yazid narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr narrated to us, from Abu Salamah who said: A man came to Abu Sa'id (رضي الله عنه) and said: Did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mention anything regarding the Haruriyyah (Khawarij)? He said: I do not know what the Haruriyyah are, but I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'There will emerge from this ummah — and he did not say: from this ummah — a people whose prayer you will belittle compared to your prayer, and their fasting compared to your fasting, and their deeds compared to your deeds. They will recite the Quran, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will pass through the religion as an arrow passes through game. You look at the arrowhead and find nothing, you look at the shaft and find nothing, you look at the feathers and find nothing, and you wonder whether anything remained on the notch.'
