Hadith #68

English Translation

Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) narrated: Marwan said to Abu Hurayrah: 'Tell me a hadith that you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' Abu Hurayrah said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: The first people to be judged on the Day of Resurrection will be a man who was martyred. He will be brought and Allah will remind him of His blessings, and he will acknowledge them. Allah will say: What did you do with them? He will say: I fought for Your sake until I was martyred. Allah will say: You lied. You fought so it would be said: He is brave. And it was said. Then he will be dragged on his face and cast into the Fire. Then a man who learned and taught knowledge and recited the Quran will be brought. Allah will remind him of His blessings and he will acknowledge them. Allah will say: What did you do? He will say: I learned knowledge and taught it and recited the Quran for Your sake. Allah will say: You lied. You learned so it would be said: He is a scholar. And you recited so it would be said: He is a reciter. And it was said. He will be dragged on his face and cast into the Fire. Then a man whom Allah enriched and gave all types of wealth will be brought. Allah will remind him of His blessings and he will acknowledge them. Allah will say: What did you do? He will say: I spent in every way You love for Your sake. Allah will say: You lied. You spent so it would be said: He is generous. And it was said. He will be dragged on his face and cast into the Fire.'
