حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ أَخَّرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الْعِشَاءِ حَتَّى تَهَوَّرَ اللَّيْلُ فَذَهَبَ ثُلُثُهُ أَوْ قَرَابَتُهُ ثُم
َّ خَرَجَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَإِذَا النَّاسُ عِزُونَ وَإِذَا هُمْ قَلِيلٌ قَالَ فَغَضِبَ غَضَبًا مَا أَعْلَمُ أَنِّي رَأَيْتُهُ غَضِبَ غَضَبًا قَطُّ أَشَدَّ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلًا دَعَا النَّاسَ إِلَى عَرْقٍ أَوْ مِرْمَاتَيْنِ أَتَوْهُ لِذَلِكَ وَلَمْ يَتَخَلَّفُوا وَهُمْ يَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنْ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةِ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلًا يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ وَأَتَّبِعَ هَذِهِ الدُّورَ الَّتِي تَخَلَّفَ أَهْلُوهَا عَنْ هَذِهِ فَأُضْرِمَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ بِالنِّيرَانِ

English Translation
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) narrated: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed the 'Isha prayer until most of the night had passed. Then he came out and led them in prayer. He said: 'The people have prayed and gone to sleep. But you are in prayer as long as you are waiting for it. Were it not for the burden on my ummah, I would have delayed this prayer to this time.'
