Hadith #115
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ يَعُودُهُ وَقَدْ صَارَ كَالْفَرْخِ
فَقَالَ لَهُ هَلْ سَأَلْتَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَالَ قُلْتُ اللَّهُمَّ مَا كُنْتَ مُعَاقِبِي بِهِ فِي الْآخِرَةِ فَعَجِّلْهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا طَاقَةَ لَكَ بِعَذَابِ اللَّهِ هَلَّا قُلْتَ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

English Translation
Affan narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, he said: Thabit informed us, from Anas (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited a man from among his Companions who had become as thin as a baby bird. He said to him: 'Did you ask Allah (عز وجل) for anything?' He said: 'I used to say: O Allah, whatever punishment You would give me in the Hereafter, bring it forward for me in this world.' the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Subhan Allah! You cannot bear that. Why did you not say: O Allah, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire?' He supplicated for him with that, and Allah healed him.
