English Translation
Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Muharib ibn Dithar, from Jabir (رضي الله عنهما) that Mu'adh [ibn Jabal] prayed with his companions and recited Surah al-Baqarah in Fajr — 'Abd al-Rahman, meaning Ibn Mahdi, said: [rather it was] Maghrib. the Prophet ﷺ said to him: 'Are you a cause of trial, O Mu'adh? Why did you not recite: Glorify the name of your Lord Most High, By the sun and its brightness, or By the night when it covers?'
