English Translation
'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Malik, from Wahb ibn Kaysan, from Jabir ibn Abdullah (رضي الله عنهما), who informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent an expedition of three hundred men and appointed Abu 'Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah as their commander. Their provisions ran out, and Abu 'Ubaydah gathered the army's food into one container. He would give each man a handful of dates per day. Then even that ran out, and he would give each man one date. When those ran out, they found a whale that the sea had cast ashore, and they ate from it for half a month.
