حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا غُلَامٌ فَأَسْمَاهُ الْقَاسِمَ فَقُلْنَا لَا نُكَنِّيكَ أ
َبَا الْقَاسِمِ وَلَا نُنْعِمُكَ عَيْنًا فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ أَسْمِ ابْنَكَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ

English Translation
Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibn al-Munkadir, who heard Jabir ibn Abdullah (رضي الله عنهما) say: A boy was born to a man among us, and he named him al-Qasim. We said: 'We will not give you the kunyah Abu al-Qasim, nor will we honor you with it.' He went to the Prophet ﷺ and told him, and the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Name your son 'Abd al-Rahman.'
