English Translation
Sufyan narrated to us, from 'Amr, who heard Jabir (رضي الله عنهما) [say]: Mu'adh used to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then go back and lead us [in prayer] — and he said another time: then go back and pray with his people. One night the Prophet ﷺ delayed the 'Isha prayer, and Mu'adh prayed with him, then went back to his people and led them, reciting Surah al-Baqarah. A man left the prayer and prayed alone. They said to him: 'You have become a hypocrite.' He went to the Prophet ﷺ and told him. the Prophet ﷺ said to Mu'adh: 'You are a cause of trial. Recite: By the sun and its brightness, and: Glorify the name of your Lord Most High, and the like.'
