Hadith #420

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ إِبْلِيسَ يَضَعُ عَرْشَهُ عَلَى الْمَاءِ ثُمَّ يَبْعَثُ سَرَايَاهُ فَأَدْنَاهُمْ مِنْهُ مَنْزِلَةً أَعْظَمُهُمْ فِتْنَةً يَجِيءُ أَحَدُهُمْ فَيَقُولُ فَعَلْ
تُ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَيَقُولُ مَا صَنَعْتَ شَيْئًا قَالَ وَيَجِيءُ أَحَدُهُمْ فَيَقُولُ مَا تَرَكْتُهُ حَتَّى فَرَّقْتُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ أَهْلِهِ قَالَ فَيُدْنِيهِ مِنْهُ أَوْ قَالَ فَيَلْتَزِمُهُ وَيَقُولُ نِعْمَ أَنْتَ قَالَ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ مَرَّةً فَيُدْنِيهِ مِنْهُ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, al-A'mash narrated to us, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir (رضي الله عنهما), who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed, Iblis places his throne upon the water, then sends out his troops. The closest of them to him in rank is the one who causes the most fitnah [trials and corruption]. One of them comes and says: I did such and such. He says: You have done nothing. Then one of them comes and says: I did not leave a man until I separated him from his wife. He [Iblis] brings him close and says: How excellent you are!'
