Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, from Shu'bah, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn 'Amr ibn al-Hasan, from Jabir ibn Abdullah (رضي الله عنهما): "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on a journey and saw a man with a crowd gathered around him providing shade for him. He asked: 'What is the matter with him?' They said: 'He is fasting.' He said: 'It is not from righteousness to fast while traveling.'"
