English Translation
Isma'il narrated to us, Hisham al-Dastawa'i informed us, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, from Jabir ibn Abdullah (رضي الله عنهما), who said: "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray voluntary prayers on his riding mount, facing whichever direction it went, not facing the qiblah. But when he wanted to pray the obligatory prayer, he would dismount and face the qiblah."
