حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا السَّائِبُ بْنُ حُبَيْشٍ عَنْ أَبِي الشَّمَّاخِ الْأَزْدِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ ع
َمٍّ لَهُ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ أَتَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ وَلِيَ أَمْرَ النَّاسِ ثُمَّ أَغْلَقَ بَابَهُ دُونَ الْمِسْكِينِ أَوْ الْمَظْلُومِ أَوْ ذِي الْحَاجَةِ أَغْلَقَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ دُونَهُ أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِهِ عِنْدَ حَاجَتِهِ وَفَقْرِهِ أَفْقَرَ مَا يَكُونُ إِلَيْهَا

English Translation
Abū Saʿīd — the freed slave of Banū Hāshim — narrated to us, he said: Zāʾidah narrated to us, he said: al-Sāʾib ibn Ḥubaysh narrated to us, from Abū al-Shammākh al-Azdī, from a paternal cousin of his — one of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ — who came to Muʿāwiyah and said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: 'Whoever guards the region between the two lava fields of Madīnah (protects its sanctity) will have my intercession or my testimony on the Day of Resurrection.'
