English Translation
Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, he said: al-Aʿmash narrated to us, from Abū Wāʾil, who said: Sahl ibn Ḥunayf said: 'Distrust your own opinions. I saw myself on the day of Abū Jandal (at the Treaty of Ḥudaybiyyah): if we had been able to reject the command of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, we would have rejected it. By Allāh, we have never put our swords on our shoulders for any matter that dismayed us except that our swords brought us to something we recognized — except for this matter of yours (the treaty).'
