قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَتَّابٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ أَنَّ رَبِيعَةَ بْنَ يَزِيدَ الدِّمَشْقِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ وَاثِلَةَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْأَسْقَعِ قَالَ كُنْتُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الصُّفَّةِ فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَس
َلَّمَ يَوْمًا بِقُرْصٍ فَكَسَرَهُ فِي الْقَصْعَةِ وَصَنَعَ فِيهَا مَاءً سُخْنًا ثُمَّ صَنَعَ فِيهَا وَدَكًا ثُمَّ سَفْسَفَهَا ثُمَّ لَبَّقَهَا ثُمَّ صَعْنَبَهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ اذْهَبْ فَأْتِنِي بِعَشَرَةٍ أَنْتَ عَاشِرُهُمْ فَجِئْتُ بِهِمْ فَقَالَ كُلُوا وَكُلُوا مِنْ أَسْفَلِهَا وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا مِنْ أَعْلَاهَا فَإِنَّ الْبَرَكَةَ تَنْزِلُ مِنْ أَعْلَاهَا فَأَكَلُوا مِنْهَا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا

English Translation
ʿAttāb narrated to us: ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Mubārak narrated to us: Ibn Lahīʿah informed us: Yazīd — meaning Ibn Abī Ḥabīb — narrated to me that Rabīʿah ibn Yazīd al-Dimashqī informed him, from Wāthilah — meaning Ibn al-Asqaʿ — he said: I was from the people of the Ṣuffah. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ called one day for a loaf of bread, broke it into a bowl, added warm water to it, then added some fat, then crumbled it, then kneaded it, then shaped it into a mound, then said: 'Go and bring me ten men, with you being the tenth.' So I brought them and he said: 'Eat, and eat from the bottom of it and do not eat from the top, for the blessing descends from above.' They ate from it until they were satisfied.
