English Translation

Ḥajjāj narrated to us, Layth ibn Saʿd narrated to us, from ʿUqayl, from Ibn Shihāb, who said: Sālim ibn ʿAbdillāh informed me that ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar said: 'O Ibn Khadīj, what do you narrate from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ about renting out land?' Rāfiʿ ibn Khadīj said to ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar: I heard my two paternal uncles who had fought at Badr narrating to the people of the household that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ forbade renting out land. Sālim said: ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar said: I had known during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ that land was being rented out. Then ʿAbdullāh feared that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ may have introduced something new regarding that which he did not know, so he abandoned renting out land.
