English Translation

Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us, my father narrated to me, from Ibn Isḥāq, my father Isḥāq ibn Yasār narrated to me, he said: We were in Makkah when ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Zubayr came out to us and forbade tamattuʿ — combining ʿUmrah with Ḥajj — and denied that the people had done that with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. This reached ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbbās, who said: 'What does Ibn al-Zubayr know about this? Let him go back to his mother Asmāʾ bint Abī Bakr and ask her, for al-Zubayr certainly returned to her lawfully and she became lawful.' This reached Asmāʾ, who said: 'May Allāh forgive Ibn ʿAbbās — he has spoken crudely. But by Allāh, Ibn ʿAbbās spoke the truth: they indeed performed tamattuʿ, and we did too, and they were intimate with their wives.'
