حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي أَدْرَكَهُ الْإِسْلَامُ وَهُوَ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ رُكُوبَ الرَّحْ
لِ وَالْحَجُّ مَكْتُوبٌ عَلَيْهِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَنْتَ أَكْبَرُ وَلَدِهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكَ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتَهُ عَنْهُ أَكَانَ ذَلِكَ يُجْزِئُ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاحْجُجْ عَنْهُ

English Translation
Jarīr narrated to us, from Manṣūr, from Mujāhid, from Yūsuf ibn al-Zubayr, from ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Zubayr who said: A man from Khathʿam came to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and said: 'My father has reached old age in Islam, unable to ride a mount, and Ḥajj is obligatory upon him. May I perform Ḥajj on his behalf?' He said: 'Are you the eldest of his children?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Do you think that if your father had a debt and you paid it on his behalf, would that suffice for him?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then perform Ḥajj on his behalf.'
