حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ مِنْ كِتَابِهِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ عَنْ حَسَّانَ بْنِ كُرَيْبٍ أَنَّ غُلَامًا مِنْهُمْ تُوُفِّيَ فَوَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ أَبَوَاهُ أَشَدَّ الْوَجْدِ فَقَالَ حَوْشَبٌ صَاحِبُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِمَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ فِي مِثْلِ ابْنِكَ إِنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ كَانَ لَهُ ابْنٌ قَدْ أَدَبَّ أَوْ دَبَّ وَكَانَ يَأْتِي مَعَ أَبِيهِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ إِنَّ ابْنَهُ تُوُفِّيَ فَوَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ أَبُوهُ قَرِيبًا مِنْ سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ لَا يَأْتِي
النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا أَرَى فُلَانًا قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ ابْنَهُ تُوُفِّيَ فَوَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَا فُلَانُ أَتُحِبُّ لَوْ أَنَّ ابْنَكَ عِنْدَكَ الْآنَ كَأَنْشَطِ الصِّبْيَانِ نَشَاطًا أَتُحِبُّ أَنَّ ابْنَكَ عِنْدَكَ أَحَرُّ الْغِلْمَانِ جَرَاءَةً أَتُحِبُّ أَنَّ ابْنَكَ عِنْدَكَ كَهْلًا كَأَفْضَلِ الْكُهُولِ أَوْ يُقَالُ لَكَ ادْخُلْ الْجَنَّةَ ثَوَابَ مَا أُخِذَ مِنْكَ

English Translation
Yaḥyā ibn Isḥāq narrated to us from his book, he said: Ibn Lahīʿah informed us, from ʿAbdullāh ibn Hubayrah, from Ḥassān ibn Kurayb, that a boy from among them passed away and his parents grieved intensely. Ḥawshab, the Companion of the Prophet ﷺ, said: 'Do you know whether your son used to reason or not?' They said: 'O Abū Bashīr, he had reached the age of reason. He used to command his family to pray.' He said: 'Then this is what makes the loss greater. I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: The children of the believers are in a mountain in Paradise, Ibrāhīm عليه السلام and Sārah رضي الله عنها care for them until they are returned to their parents on the Day of Resurrection.' This applies to those among them who had reached the age of understanding.
