قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو وَعَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيٌّ حَدَّثَنَا غَيْلَانُ عَنْ مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ وَفَدَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي رَهْطٍ مِنْ بَنِي عَامِرٍ قَالَ فَأَتَيْنَاهُ فَسَلَّمْنَا عَلَيْهِ فَقُلْنَا أَنْتَ وَلِيُّنَا وَأَن
ْتَ سَيِّدُنَا وَأَنْتَ أَطْوَلُ عَلَيْنَا قَالَ يُونُسُ وَأَنْتَ أَطْوَلُ عَلَيْنَا طَوْلًا وَأَنْتَ أَفْضَلُنَا عَلَيْنَا فَضْلًا وَأَنْتَ الْجَفْنَةُ الْغَرَّاءُ فَقَالَ قُولُوا قَوْلَكُمْ وَلَا يَسْتَجِرَّنَّكُمْ الشَّيْطَانُ قَالَ وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ وَلَا يَسْتَهْوِيَنَّكُمْ

English Translation
Suwayd ibn ʿAmr and ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us, they said: Mahdī narrated to us, Ghaylān narrated to us, from Muṭarrif ibn ʿAbdillāh ibn al-Shikhkhīr, from his father, that he came as a delegate to the Prophet ﷺ with a group from Banū ʿĀmir. He said: We came to him and greeted him. We said: You are our patron, you are our master, you are the greatest among us in authority and the most excellent among us in virtue, and you are the overflowing bowl. He said: "Say what you have to say, and let the Shayṭān not lead you on" — and sometimes he said: "and let him not seduce you."
