Hadith #370
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ إِلَى أَرْضِ الرُّومِ وَكَانَ عَامِلًا لِمُعَاوِيَةَ عَلَى الدَّرْب
ِ فَأُصِيبَ ابْنُ عَمٍّ لَنَا فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ فَضَالَةُ وَقَامَ عَلَى حُفْرَتِهِ حَتَّى وَارَاهُ فَلَمَّا سَوَّيْنَا عَلَيْهِ حُفْرَتَهُ قَالَ أَخِفُّوا عَنْهُ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَأْمُرُنَا بِتَسْوِيَةِ الْقُبُورِ

English Translation
It was narrated from Fadalah ibn Ubayd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out on a day that he was fasting and called for a vessel of water and drank from it. They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you are fasting!' He said: 'Yes, but I had an urgent need.'
