حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ قَالَ دَخَلَتْ امْرَأَةُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَظْعُونٍ أَحْسِبُ اسْمَهَا خَوْلَةَ بِنْتَ حَكِيمٍ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ وَهِيَ بَاذَّةُ الْهَيْئَةِ فَسَأَلْتُهَا مَا شَأْنُكِ فَقَالَتْ زَوْجِي يَق
ُومُ اللَّيْلَ وَيَصُومُ النَّهَارَ فَدَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَتْ عَائِشَةُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَلَقِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عُثْمَانَ فَقَالَ يَا عُثْمَانُ إِنَّ الرَّهْبَانِيَّةَ لَمْ تُكْتَبْ عَلَيْنَا أَفَمَا لَكَ فِيَّ أُسْوَةٌ فَوَاللَّهِ إِنِّي أَخْشَاكُمْ لِلَّهِ وَأَحْفَظُكُمْ لِحُدُودِهِ

English Translation
It was narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ that Uthman prayed throughout the night and fasted during the day. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ met Uthman and said: 'O Uthman, monasticism has not been prescribed for us. Do you not have in me a good example? By Allah, I am the most fearful of you before Allah and the most observant of His boundaries.'
