Hadith #22

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ سَمِعَهُ مِنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَهْمِ سَمِعْتُ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ قَيْسٍ قَالَتْ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أَحْلَلْتِ فَآذِنِينِي فَآذَنَتْهُ فَخَطَبَهَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ وَأَبُو الْجَهْمِ وَأُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ
صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَّا مُعَاوِيَةُ فَرَجُلٌ تَرِبٌ لَا مَالَ لَهُ وَأَمَّا أَبُو الْجَهْمِ فَرَجُلٌ ضَرَّابٌ لِلنِّسَاءِ وَلَكِنْ أُسَامَةَ قَالَ فَقَالَتْ بِيَدِهَا هَكَذَا أُسَامَةُ تَقُولُ لَمْ تُرِدْهُ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَاعَةُ اللَّهِ وَطَاعَةُ رَسُولِهِ خَيْرٌ لَكِ فَتَزَوَّجَتْهُ فَاغْتَبَطَتْهُ

English Translation
It was narrated from Fatima bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet ﷺ said: "As for Mu'awiya, he is a poor man with no wealth. As for Abu al-Jahm, he is a man who beats women. But Usama..." She indicated with her hand as if to say she did not want him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her: "Obeying Allah and obeying His Messenger is better for you." So she married him and was pleased with him.
