Hadith #370
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَامِرٌ قَالَ كَانَ لِشَرَاحَةَ زَوْجٌ غَائِبٌ بِالشَّامِ وَإِنَّهَا حَمَلَتْ فَجَاءَ بِهَا مَوْلَاهَا إِلَى عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَذِهِ زَنَتْ فَاعْتَرَفَتْ فَجَلَدَهَا يَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ مِائَةً وَرَجَمَهَا يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَحَفَرَ لَهَا إِلَى السُّرَّةِ وَأَنَا شَاهِدٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ الرَّجْمَ سُنَّةٌ سَنَّ
هَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَوْ كَانَ شَهِدَ عَلَى هَذِهِ أَحَدٌ لَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ يَرْمِي الشَّاهِدُ يَشْهَدُ ثُمَّ يُتْبِعُ شَهَادَتَهُ حَجَرَهُ وَلَكِنَّهَا أَقَرَّتْ فَأَنَا أَوَّلُ مَنْ رَمَاهَا فَرَمَاهَا بِحَجَرٍ ثُمَّ رَمَى النَّاسُ وَأَنَا فِيهِمْ قَالَ فَكُنْتُ وَاللَّهِ فِيمَنْ قَتَلَهَا
Isnad Chain
English Translation
It was narrated from Muhammad bin `Ubaidullah, from his father, that his paternal uncle said: `Ali (رضي الله عنه) was asked: Can a man ride his sacrificial animal? He said: There is nothing wrong with it; the Prophet ﷺ used to pass by men who were walking and he would tell them to ride his sacrificial animails, i.e. the Prophet ﷺ`s sacrificial animals. He said: And there is nothing you could follow that is better than the Sunnah of your Prophet (ﷺ).
