حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، كَانَ يَحْمِلُ فِي الْعَامِ الْوَاحِدِ عَلَى أَرْبَعِينَ أَلْفِ بَعِيرٍ يَحْمِلُ الرَّجُلَ إِلَى الشَّامِ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ وَيَحْمِلُ الرَّجُلَيْنِ إِلَى الْعِرَاق
ِ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ فَجَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ فَقَالَ احْمِلْنِي وَسُحَيْمًا . فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ نَشَدْتُكَ اللَّهَ أَسُحَيْمٌ زِقٌّ قَالَ لَهُ نَعَمْ .
Isnad Chain
English Translation
It was narrated from Yahya ibn Said that Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) would allocate transport for forty thousand camels in a single year — one camel per man traveling to Syria and one camel for every two men traveling to Iraq. A man from Iraq came to him and said: 'Transport me and Suhaym.' Umar ibn al-Khattab said to him: 'I adjure you by Allah — is Suhaym a waterskin (i.e., baggage)?' The man said: 'Yes.' (Indicating Suhaym was a waterskin, not a person, so one camel sufficed for both)
