Chain of Narration (Isnad)

وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم رَغَّبَ فِي الْجِهَادِ وَذَكَر

َ الْجَنَّةَ وَرَجُلٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ يَأْكُلُ تَمَرَاتٍ فِي يَدِهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَحَرِيصُ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا إِنْ جَلَسْتُ حَتَّى أَفْرُغَ مِنْهُنَّ . فَرَمَى مَا فِي يَدِهِ فَحَمَلَ بِسَيْفِهِ فَقَاتَلَ حَتَّى قُتِلَ .

English Translation

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stimulated people for jihad and mentioned the Garden. One of the Ansar was eating some dates in his hand, and said, "Am I so desirous of this world that I should sit until I finish them?" He threw aside what was in his hand and took his sword, and fought until he was slain
