Overview

A major Sufi order tracing its spiritual lineage through Abu Bakr al-Siddiq. Named after Baha al-Din Naqshband (1318-1389 CE) of Bukhara, the order emphasizes silent dhikr (remembrance within the heart), strict adherence to the Sunnah, and active engagement with society rather than withdrawal. The Naqshbandiyya has been particularly influential in Central Asia, the Indian subcontinent, Turkey, the Caucasus, and Southeast Asia. Many of its shaykhs have been politically active.

  • Strict adherence to the Sunnah and Shariah
