Overview

The largest Shia sect, believing in twelve divinely appointed Imams from the Prophet's family, the last of whom (Muhammad al-Mahdi) is believed to be in occultation since 874 CE. Predominant in Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, and Bahrain.
