One of the four foundational works of usul al-fiqh. Al-Amidi synthesizes the methodologies of al-Ghazali and ar-Razi into a comprehensive and well-organized treatise that became the standard reference for later scholars. Many subsequent usul works are essentially commentaries or abridgments of al-Amidi.
