A thousand-line poem (alfiyyah) that comprehensively covers Arabic grammar and morphology. Ibn Malik, the Andalusian grammarian, condensed the entire science of Arabic nahw and sarf into elegant, memorizable verse. The poem superseded all earlier grammar versifications and remains the standard advanced grammar text in traditional Islamic education. Ibn Aqil's commentary is the most widely studied explanation of this work.
