Aysar al-Tafasir li-Kalam al-'Aliyy al-Kabir — "The Easiest of Commentaries on the Speech of the Most High and Great" — is a comprehensive yet accessible Quranic exegesis authored by Shaykh Abu Bakr Jabir al-Jazairi (1921–2018 CE / 1339–1439 AH). Born in Algeria, al-Jazairi spent the greater part of his scholarly life in Madinah al-Munawwarah, where he taught in the Prophet's Mosque for decades. He was among the senior scholars of his era who combined classical training with a clear commitment to making Islamic knowledge available to the broadest possible audience. His work reflects the Sunni mainstream in both 'aqeedah and fiqh, drawing on the Athari tradition while remaining accessible across the four established madhahib.
The tafsir was composed with the general Muslim reader in mind. Al-Jazairi was concerned that the major classical commentaries — works of enormous depth such as Ibn Jarir al-Tabari's Jami' al-Bayan or Ibn Kathir's Tafsir al-Quran al-'Azim — were often too voluminous or technically demanding for ordinary believers seeking to understand the Quran in their daily lives. Aysar al-Tafasir accordingly distills the most reliable and relevant meanings from the classical tradition while presenting them in clear, modern Arabic that is neither dry nor overly simplified.
The methodology of the work follows the accepted Sunni approach to tafsir: explanation of the Quran by the Quran itself, then by authentic hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him), then by the statements of the Companions and the Successors. Al-Jazairi is careful to prefer established scholarly opinion over personal interpretation, and he consistently steers the reader toward correct 'aqeedah and sound practice. Each surah is introduced with a brief contextual overview, and individual verses are explained with attention to vocabulary, occasion of revelation where relevant, and practical lessons for the believer.
Among its distinctive features is the inclusion of practical guidance sections within each passage — what the author terms "fawa'id" or benefits — which connect the Quranic text to everyday Muslim life. This makes Aysar al-Tafasir not merely an academic reference but a tool for spiritual growth and daily reflection. It became one of the most widely circulated contemporary tafsir works in Arabic-speaking communities and has been taught in mosques and Islamic schools across the Muslim world.
The work carries significant educational value for students and teachers alike. Al-Jazairi's commitment to brevity without superficiality, and his consistent grounding in authentic sources, make this tafsir a trustworthy starting point for anyone seeking to understand the Quran according to the way of Ahl us-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah. It stands as a major contribution to the revival of Quranic literacy in the modern Muslim community and a testament to al-Jazairi's lifelong service to the Book of Allah in the city of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
