الحماية من الجن والشيطان
The Islamic tradition provides a comprehensive and tested system of protection from the harmful influence of both jinn and Shaytan. This system is not based on superstition or folk practices but on specific Quranic verses and authenticated prophetic supplications that have been transmitted across generations of Muslims with chains of evidence (isnad) and scholarly verification. Al-Ashqar presents these in the context of a broader spiritual ecology: a person who maintains their Islamic practice consistently creates an environment that evil jinn find inhospitable and that divine protection naturally accompanies.
The most powerful protection is recitation of Ayat al-Kursi — Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255) — after every obligatory prayer and before sleeping. The Prophet told his companion Abu Hurairah, who had caught a thief stealing from the zakah wealth, that the thief taught him something true: 'When you go to your bed, recite Ayat al-Kursi — a guardian from Allah will remain with you and Shaytan will not approach you until morning.' The verse's content (Allah's throne extending over the heavens and earth, His absolute sovereignty and watchfulness) is precisely the theological content that repels Shaytan.
Reciting the last two surahs of the Quran — Al-Falaq and An-Nas (the Mu'awwidhatayn) — provides targeted protection. Al-Falaq seeks refuge from general evil including the evil of witchcraft and the evil of enviers. An-Nas seeks refuge specifically from the whispering of the withdrawing deceiver (Shaytan) who whispers into the chests of people. The Prophet recited these regularly, especially when ill or feeling vulnerable, and recommended them to the believers.
The morning and evening adhkar (remembrances), preserved in collections of prophetic supplications, provide comprehensive daily protection. Reciting 'Bismillah' when entering and leaving the home prevents Shaytan from spending the night or eating with the household. Reciting 'A'udhu billahi min ash-shaytani ar-rajim' before entering the bathroom removes the garment of divine protection and replaces it with the prescribed invocation that keeps away jinn who inhabit such places.
Beyond specific formulas, Al-Ashqar emphasizes the lifestyle dimensions of protection. Consistent prayer five times daily creates a rhythm of divine connection that strengthens the believer's spiritual field. Regular Quranic recitation fills the household with light (in a real spiritual sense) that repels darkness. Avoiding the gathering places of jinn (graveyards after sunset, isolated ruins, dirty locations) reduces unnecessary exposure. Maintaining ritual purity (wudu) at all times when possible keeps the believer in a state of worship that jinn find hostile.
The underlying principle of all Islamic protection from jinn is the same: nearness to Allah is the surest safeguard against all harm. The believer who is conscious of Allah, remembers Him consistently, avoids the sinful environments that invite jinn influence, and relies upon Him with genuine tawakkul has placed themselves under the most effective protection available in the universe — the protection of the Lord of all worlds, before whose command every jinn, however powerful, is utterly powerless.
