Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا مُجَاهِدُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا رَيْحَانُ هُوَ ابْنُ سَعِيدٍ السَّامِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادٌ هُوَ ابْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي رَجَاءٍ ، قَالَ :" كُنَّا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ إِذَا أَصَبْنَا حَجَرًا حَسَنًا، عَبَدْنَاهُ، وَإِنْ لَمْ نُصِبْ حَجَرًا، جَمَعْنَا كُثْبَةً مِنْ رَمْل
ٍ، ثُمَّ جِئْنَا بِالنَّاقَةِ الصَّفِيِّ فَتَفَاجَّ عَلَيْهَا، فَنَحْلُبُهَا عَلَى الْكُثْبَةِ حَتَّى نَرْوِيَهَا، ثُمَّ نَعْبُدُ تِلْكَ الْكُثْبَةَ مَا أَقَمْنَا بِذَلِكَ الْمَكَانِ "، قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد الصَّفِيُّ : الْكَثِيرَةُ الْأَلْبَانِ

English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Raja' that he said: 'In the pre-Islamic era, whenever we found a beautiful stone we would worship it. If we could not find a stone, we would gather a mound of sand, then bring a sheep and milk it over the mound and circumambulate it. When the month of Rajab came, we would say: the month for removing iron-heads — and we would strip all arrows of their iron tips and not fight during the whole of Rajab and Sha'ban.'
