أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ :" لَمَّا نُهِينَا أَنْ نَبْتَدِئَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُعْجِبُنَا أَنْ يَقْدُمَ الْبَدَوِيُّ وَالْأَعْرَابِيُّ الْعَاقِلُ فَيَسْأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَنَحْنُ عِنْدَهُ فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ كَذَلِكَ إِذْ جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ، فَجَثَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ : يَا مُحَمَّدُ ، إِنَّ رَسُولَكَ أَتَانَا فَزَعَمَ لَنَا أَنَّكَ تَزْعُمُ أَنَّ اللَّهَ أَرْسَلَكَ؟، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : صَدَقَ، قَالَ : فَبِالَّذِي رَفَعَ السَّمَاءَ وَبَسَطَ الْأَرْضَ وَنَصَبَ الْجِبَالَ، آللَّهُ أَرْسَلَكَ؟، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : نَعَمْ، قَالَ : فَإِنَّ رَسُولَكَ زَعَمَ لَنَا أَنَّكَ تَزْعُمُ أَنَّ عَلَيْنَا خَمْسَ صَلَوَاتٍ فِي الْيَوْمِ وَاللَّيْلَةِ؟، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : صَدَقَ، قَالَ : فَبِالَّذِي أَرْسَلَكَ، آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ بِهَذَا؟، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : نَعَمْ، قَالَ : فَإِنَّ رَسُولَكَ زَعَمَ لَنَا أَنَّكَ تَزْعُمُ أَنَّ عَلَيْنَا صَوْمَ شَهْرٍ فِي السَّنَةِ؟، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : صَدَقَ، قَالَ : فَبِالَّذِي أَرْسَلَكَ، آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ بِهَذَا؟، قَالَ : نَعَمْ، قَالَ : فَإِنَّ رَسُولَكَ زَعَمَ لَنَا أَنَّكَ تَزْعُمُ أَنَّ عَلَيْنَا فِي أَمْوَالِنَا الزَّكَاةَ؟، فَقَالَ : النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : صَدَقَ، قَالَ : فَبِالَّذِي أَرْسَلَكَ، آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ بِهَذَا؟، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : نَعَمْ، قَالَ : فَإِنَّ رَسُولَكَ زَعَمَ لَنَا أَنَّكَ تَزْعُمُ أَنَّ عَلَيْنَا الْحَجَّ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ مَنْ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا؟، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : صَدَقَ، قَالَ : فَبِالَّذِي أَرْسَلَكَ آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ بِهَذَا؟، قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : نَعَمْ، قَالَ : فَوَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ لَا أَدَعُ مِنْهُنَّ شَيْئًا، وَلَا أُجَاوِزُهُنَّ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ وَثَبَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنْ صَدَقَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ "

It was narrated from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that when they were forbidden from initiating conversation with the Prophet ﷺ, they hoped a reasonable Bedouin would come and ask him questions while they were present. A Bedouin came and knelt before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Muhammad, your messenger came to us and claimed that you claim Allah has sent you.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'He spoke the truth.' The man said: 'By the One who raised the sky, spread the earth, and set the mountains firm — did Allah send you?' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Your messenger claimed you claim we must perform five prayers each day and night.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'He spoke the truth.' He said: 'By the One who sent you, did Allah command you with this?' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Your messenger claimed you claim we must fast one month each year.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'He spoke the truth.' He said: 'Did Allah command you with this?' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Your messenger claimed you claim we must pay zakah on our wealth.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'He spoke the truth.' He said: 'Did Allah command you with this?' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Your messenger claimed you claim we must perform Hajj to the House, for those who are able to do so.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'He spoke the truth.' He said: 'By the One who sent you, did Allah command you with this?' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Yes.' The man said: 'By the One who sent you with the truth, I will not leave any of them and will not exceed them.' The Prophet ﷺ then said: 'If the Bedouin is truthful, he will enter Paradise.'

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَ :" جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ : السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا غُلَامَ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، فَقَالَ : وَعَلَيْكَ، قَالَ : إِنِّي رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَخْوَالِكَ مِنْ بَنِي سَعْدِ بْنِ بَكْرٍ، وَأَنَا رَسُولُ قَوْمِي إِلَيْكَ وَوَافِدُهُمْ، وَإِنِّي سَائِلُكَ فَمُشَدِّدٌ مَسْأَلَتِي إِلَيْكَ، وَمُنَاشِدُكَ فَمُشَدِّدٌ مُنَاشَدَتِي إِيَّاكَ، قَالَ : خُذْ عَنْكَ يَا أَخَا بَنِي سَعْدٍ، قَالَ : مَنْ خَلَقَكَ، وَخَلَقَ مَنْ قَبْلَكَ، وَمَنْ هُوَ خَالِقُ مَنْ بَعْدَكَ؟، قَالَ : اللَّهُ قَالَ فَنَشَدْتُكَ بِذَلِكَ، أَهُوَ أَرْسَلَكَ؟، قَالَ : نَعَمْ، قَالَ : مَنْ خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ السَّبْعَ وَالْأَرَضِينَ السَّبْعَ، وَأَجْرَى بَيْنَهُنَّ الرِّزْقَ؟، قَالَ : اللَّهُ، قَالَ : فَنَشَدْتُكَ بِذَلِكَ، أَهُوَ أَرْسَلَكَ؟، قَالَ : نَعَمْ، قَالَ : إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا فِي كِتَابِكَ، وَأَمَرَتْنَا رُسُلُكَ أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ فِي الْيَوْمِ وَاللَّيْلَةِ خَمْسَ صَلَوَاتٍ لِمَوَاقِيتِهَا، فَنَشَدْتُكَ بِذَلِكَ، أَهُوَ أَمَرَكَ؟، قَالَ : نَعَمْ، قَالَ : فَإِنَّا وَجَدْنَا فِي كِتَابِكَ، وَأَمَرَتْنَا رُسُلُكَ أَنْ نَأْخُذَ مِنْ حَوَاشِي أَمْوَالِنَا فَنَرُدَّهَا عَلَى فُقَرَائِنَا، فَنَشَدْتُكَ بِذَلِكَ، أَهُوَ أَمَرَكَ بِذَلِكَ؟، قَالَ : نَعَمْ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : أَمَّا الْخَامِسَةُ، فَلَسْتُ بِسَائِلِكَ عَنْهَا، وَلَا إِرَبَ لِي فِيهَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ : أَمَا وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ لَأَعْمَلَنَّ بِهَا وَمَنْ أَطَاعَنِي مِنْ قَوْمِي، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ، فَضَحِكَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى بَدَتْ نَوَاجِذُهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ، لَئِنْ صَدَقَ، لَيَدْخُلَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ "

It was narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) that a Bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'Peace be upon you, O young man of the Banu Abd al-Muttalib.' He replied: 'And upon you.' The man said: 'I am a man from your maternal relatives of Banu Sa'd ibn Bakr, and I am the messenger and delegate of my people to you. I will question you, so be thorough in your answers.' He then asked about the five pillars of Islam — the testimony of faith, the five daily prayers, fasting Ramadan, zakah, and Hajj — and the Prophet ﷺ confirmed each one. The man said: 'By the One who sent you with the truth, I will neither add to nor subtract from what you have told me.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'If he is truthful, he will enter Paradise.'

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاق ، حَدَّثَنِي سَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ نُوَيْفِعٍ ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَ : بَعَثَ بَنُو سَعْدِ بْنِ بَكْرٍ ضِمَامَ بْنَ ثَعْلَبَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَدِمَ عَلَيْهِ، فَأَنَاخَ بَعِيرَهُ عَلَى بَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ، ثُمَّ عَقَلَهُ، ثُمَّ دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَالِسٌ فِي أَصْحَابِهِ، وَكَانَ ضِمَامٌ رَجُلًا جَلْدًا، أَشْعَرَ، ذَا غَدِيرَتَيْنِ، حَتَّى وَقَفَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ : أَيُّكُمْ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ؟، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" أَنَا ابْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، قَالَ : مُحَمَّدٌ ؟، قَالَ : نَعَمْ، قَالَ : يَا ابْنَ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، إِنِّي سَائِلُكَ وَمُغَلِّظٌ فِي الْمَسْأَلَةِ، فَلَا تَجِدَنَّ فِي نَفْسِكَ، قَالَ : لَا أَجِدُ فِي نَفْسِي، فَسَلْ عَمَّا بَدَا لَكَ، قَالَ : إِنِّي أَنْشُدُكَ بِاللَّهِ إِلَهِكَ وَإِلَهِ مَنْ هُوَ كَانَ قَبْلَكَ، وَإِلَهِ مَنْ هُوَ كَائِنٌ بَعْدَكَ، آللَّهُ بَعَثَكَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولًا؟، قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ، قَالَ : فَأَنْشُدُكَ بِاللَّهِ إِلَهِكَ وَإِلَهِ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكَ، وَإِلَهِ مَنْ هُوَ كَائِنٌ بَعْدَكَ، آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ أَنْ نَعْبُدَهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا نُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا، وَأَنْ نَخْلَعَ هَذِهِ الْأَنْدَادَ الَّتِي كَانَتْ آبَاؤُنَا تَعْبُدُهَا مِنْ دُونِهِ؟، قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ، قَالَ : فَأَنْشُدُكَ بِاللَّهِ إِلَهِكَ وَإِلَهِ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكَ، وَإِلَهِ مَنْ هُوَ كَائِنٌ بَعْدَكَ، آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ هَذِهِ الصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسَ؟، قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ جَعَلَ يَذْكُرُ فَرَائِضَ الْإِسْلَامِ فَرِيضَةً فَرِيضَةً : الزَّكَاةَ، وَالصِّيَامَ، وَالْحَجَّ، وَشَرَائِعَ الْإِسْلَامِ كُلَّهَا، وَيُنَاشِدُهُ عِنْدَ كُلِّ فَرِيضَةٍ كَمَا نَاشَدَهُ فِي الَّتِي قَبْلَهَا حَتَّى إِذَا فَرَغَ، قَالَ : فَإِنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، وَسَأُؤَدِّي هَذِهِ الْفَرِيضَةَ، وَأَجْتَنِبُ مَا نَهَيْتَنِي عَنْهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : لَا أَزِيدُ وَلَا أُنْقِصُ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ إِلَى بَعِيرِهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ وَلَّى : إِنْ يَصْدُقْ ذُو الْعَقِيصَتَيْنِ، يَدْخُلْ الْجَنَّةَ، فَأَتَى إِلَى بَعِيرِهِ فَأَطْلَقَ عِقَالَهُ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ حَتَّى قَدِمَ عَلَى قَوْمِهِ فَاجْتَمَعُوا إِلَيْهِ، فَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَا تَكَلَّمَ أَنْ قَالَ : بَئْسَتِ اللَّاتِ وَالْعُزَّى، قَالُوا : مَهْ يَا ضِمَامُ، اتَّقِ الْبَرَصَ، وَاتَّقِ الْجُنُونَ، وَاتَّقِ الْجُذَامَ، قَالَ : وَيْلَكُمْ، إِنَّهُمَا وَاللَّهِ مَا يَضُرَّانِ وَلَا يَنْفَعَانِ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ بَعَثَ رَسُولًا، وَأَنْزَلَ عَلَيْهِ كِتَابًا اسْتَنْقَذَكُمْ بِهِ مِمَّا كُنْتُمْ فِيهِ، وَإِنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، وَقَدْ جِئْتُكُمْ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ بِمَا أَمَرَكُمْ بِهِ وَنَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : فَوَاللَّهِ مَا أَمْسَى مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ وَفِي حَاضِرِهِ رَجُلٌ، وَلَا امْرَأَةٌ إِلَّا مُسْلِمًا، قَالَ : يَقُولُ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : فَمَا سَمِعْنَا بِوَافِدِ قَوْمٍ كَانَ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ضِمَامِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ "

It was narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) that the tribe of Banu Sa'd ibn Bakr sent Dimam ibn Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him) to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He came and tethered his camel at the door of the mosque, then tied it and entered. He asked the people about the Prophet ﷺ. When he came before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said: 'By the One who raised the sky, spread the earth, and set the mountains, did Allah send you?' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Yes.' He then asked about the obligations of Islam one by one — prayer, fasting, zakah, and Hajj — and the Prophet ﷺ confirmed each. Dimam stood up and said: 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. I will fulfill all of these obligations and avoid all that you have forbidden.' The Prophet ﷺ then said: 'If this man has spoken the truth, he will enter Paradise.'

أَخْبَرَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ هُوَ ابْنُ يَزِيدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَّامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ :" الطُّهُورُ شَطْرُ الْإِيمَانِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ يَمْلَأُ الْمِيزَانَ، وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ يَمْلَآَنِ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ، وَالصَّلَاةُ نُورٌ، وَالصَّدَقَةُ بُرْهَانٌ، وَالْوُضُوءُ ضِيَاءٌ، وَالْقُرْآنُ حُجَّةٌ لَكَ أَوْ عَلَيْكَ، وَكُلُّ النَّاسِ يَغْدُو : فَبَائِعٌ نَفْسَهُ، فَمُعْتِقُهَا، أَوْ مُوبِقُهَا "

It was narrated from Abu Malik al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Purification is half of faith. Al-hamdulillah fills the scale. Subhanallah and Allahu Akbar fill what is between the heavens and the earth. Prayer is a light, charity is a proof, patience is a radiance, and the Quran is a proof for you or against you. Every person begins his day as a vendor of his soul, either freeing it or bringing about its ruin.'

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق ، عَنْ جُرَيٍّ النَّهْدِيِّ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ، قَالَ : عَقَدَهُنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي يَدِي أَوْ قَالَ : عَقَدَهُنَّ فِي يَدِهِ وَيَدُهُ فِي يَدِي :" سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ نِصْفُ الْميزَانِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ يَمْلَأُ الْمِيزَانَ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ يَمْلَأُ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ، وَالْوُضُوءُ نِصْفُ الْإِيمَانِ، وَالصَّوْمُ نِصْفُ الصَّبْرِ "

It was narrated from a man from Banu Sulaym who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ counted them on my hand — or he counted them on his hand and his hand was in mine — saying: 'Subhanallah is half the scale, Alhamdulillah fills the scale, Allahu Akbar fills what is between the heavens and the earth, fasting is half of patience, and purification is half of faith.'

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، وَالْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" اسْتَقِيمُوا وَلَنْ تُحْصُوا، وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ خَيْرَ أَعْمَالِكُمْ الصَّلَاةُ " وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ : " إِنَّ مِنْ خَيْرِ أَعْمَالِكُمْ الصَّلَاةَ " " وَلَنْ يُحَافِظَ عَلَى الْوُضُوءِ إِلَّا مُؤْمِنٌ "

It was narrated from Thawban, the freed servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Be steadfast and you will not be able to count it. Know that the best of your deeds is prayer.' One narrator added: 'Verily, among the best of your deeds is prayer.'

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بِشْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ ثَوْبَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي حَسَّانُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ ، أَنَّ أَبَا كَبْشَةَ السَّلُولِيّ حَدَّثَهُ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" سَدِّدُوا، وَقَارِبُوا، وَخَيْرُ أَعْمَالِكُمْ الصَّلَاةُ، وَلَنْ يُحَافِظَ عَلَى الْوُضُوءِ إِلَّا مُؤْمِنٌ "

It was narrated from Abu Kabsha al-Saluli that Thawban, the servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Remain steadfast, although you will not fully be able to do so. Know that the best of your deeds is prayer, and only a believer maintains his wudu consistently.'

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَسْعُودُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ L7439 ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ : أَنَّ سَعْدًا رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ كَانَيُصَلِّي الصَّلَوَاتِ كُلَّهَا بِوُضُوءٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَأَنَّ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ كَانَ يَتَوَضَّأُ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ، وَتَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ : # إِذَا قُمْتُمْ إِلَى الصَّلاةِ فَاغْسِلُوا وُجُوهَكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ سورة المائدة آية 6 # "

It was narrated from Ikrimah that Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) used to pray the five daily prayers two by two — combining Dhuhr with Asr, and Maghrib with Isha when he was in his city. When he was asked about this, he said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do so.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ هُوَ ابْنُ إِسْحَاق ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَبَّانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : أَرَأَيْتَ تَوَضُّأَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ طَاهِرًا، أَوْ غَيْرَ طَاهِرٍ عَمَّ ذَلِكَ؟، قَالَ : حَدَّثَتْهُ أَسْمَاءُ بِنْتُ زَيْدِ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ حَنْظَلَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَهَا، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" أُمِرَ بِالْوُضُوءِ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ طَاهِرًا أَوْ غَيْرَ طَاهِرٍ، فَلَمَّا شَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ، أُمِرَ بِالسِّوَاكِ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ "، وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، يَرَى أَنَّ بِهِ عَلَى ذَلِكَ قُوَّةً، فَكَانَ لَا يَدَعُ الْوُضُوءَ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ

It was narrated that Abdullah ibn Abdullah ibn Umar said: 'I asked my father — meaning Ibn Umar — whether I should pray with a man who has combined the two prayers. He said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ combine prayers when he needed to, so pray with him.'

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ مَرْثَدٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" يَتَوَضَّأُ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ، حَتَّى كَانَ يَوْمُ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ ، صَلَّى الصَّلَوَاتِ بِوُضُوءٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ "، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ : رَأَيْتُكَ صَنَعْتَ شَيْئًا لَمْ تَكُنْ تَصْنَعُهُ؟، قَالَ : " إِنِّي عَمْدًا صَنَعْتُ يَا عُمَرُ "، قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد : فَدَلَّ فِعْلُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ مَعْنَى قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى : # إِذَا قُمْتُمْ إِلَى الصَّلاةِ فَاغْسِلُوا وُجُوهَكُمْ سورة المائدة آية 6 #، لِكُلِّ مُحْدِثٍ، لَيْسَ لِلطَّاهِرِ، وَمِنْهُ قَوْلُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا وُضُوءَ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدَثٍ "، وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ

It was narrated from Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to make a new ablution for every prayer. On the Day of the Conquest of Mecca, he performed all the prayers with one ablution and wiped over his leather socks. Umar said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, you have done something today that you have not done before.' He said: 'I did it deliberately, O Umar.'

أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" إِذَا ذَهَبَ إِلَى الْحَاجَةِ، أَبْعَدَ "

It was narrated from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution for every prayer and we used to pray all of our prayers with a single ablution.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" إِذَا تَبَرَّزَ تَبَاعَدَ "، قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد : هُوَ الْأَدَبُ

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Were it not that I would be overburdening my community, I would have commanded them to perform ablution for every prayer and to use the siwak with every ablution.'

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَوْرُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُصَيْنٌ الْحِمْيَرِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْخَيْرُ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" مَنْ اكْتَحَلَ فَلْيُوتِرْ، مَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ، فَقَدْ أَحْسَنَ، وَمَنْ لَا، فَلَا حَرَجَ، مَنْ اسْتَجْمَرَ، فَلْيُوتِرْ، مَنْ فَعَلَ، فَقَدْ أَحْسَنَ، وَمَنْ لَا، فَلَا حَرَجَ، مَنْ أَكَلَ فَلْيَتَخَلَّلْ، فَمَا تَخَلَّلَ، فَلْيَلْفِظْ، وَمَا لَاكَ بِلِسَانِهِ، فَلْيَبْتَلِعْ، مَنْ أَتَى الْغَائِطَ، فَلْيَسْتَتِرْ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ إِلَّا كَثِيبَ رَمْلٍ، فَلْيَسْتَدْبِرْهُ، فَإِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ يَتَلَاعَبُونَ بِمَقَاعِدِ بَنِي آدَمَ ، مَنْ فَعَلَ، فَقَدْ أَحْسَنَ، وَمَنْ لَا، فَلَا حَرَجَ "

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Were it not that I would be overburdening my community — or the people — I would have commanded them to use the siwak with every prayer.'

أَخْبَرَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مِنْهَالٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيٌّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَعْقُوبَ ، عَنْ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ مَوْلَى الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : كَانَ أَحَبَّ مَا اسْتَتَرَ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِحَاجَتِهِ" هَدَفٌ أَوْ حَائِشُ نَخْلٍ "

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Were it not that I would be overburdening the believers, I would have commanded them to delay the Isha prayer and to use the siwak with every prayer.'

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ ، عَنْ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ بِنْ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ مَوْلَى سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهُ :" أَنْتَ رَسُولِي إِلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ فَقُلْ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكُمْ السَّلَامَ، وَيَأْمُرُكُمْ إِذَا خَرَجْتُمْ، فَلَا تَسْتَقْبِلُوا الْقِبْلَةَ، وَلَا تَسْتَدْبِرُوهَا "

It was narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The siwak is a purification for the mouth and pleasing to the Lord.'

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ زَيدَ ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ :" إِذَا أَتَيْتُمْ الْغَائِطَ، فَلَا تَسْتَقْبِلُوا الْقِبْلَةَ بِغَائِطٍ، وَلَا بَوْلٍ، وَلَا تَسْتَدْبِرُوهَا "، قَالَ : ثُمَّ قَالَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ : فَقَدِمْنَا الشَّامَ ، فَوَجَدْنَا مَرَاحِيضَ قَدْ بُنِيَتْ عِنْدَ الْقِبْلَةِ فَنَنْحَرِفُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ، قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد : وَهَذَا أَصَحُّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ، وَعَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ شِبْهُ الْمَتْرُوكِ

It was narrated from Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Use the siwak, for the siwak is a purification for the mouth and pleasing to the Lord. Whenever Jibril came to me he always enjoined the siwak upon me, so much that I feared it would be made obligatory upon me and my community. Were it not that I would be overburdening my community, I would have made it obligatory upon them. I use the siwak so much that I have feared it would wear away the front of my mouth.'

حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ :" لَا يَرْفَعُ ثَوْبَهُ حَتَّى يَدْنُوَ مِنْ الْأَرْضِ "، قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد : هُوَ أَدَبٌ، وَهُوَ أَشْبَهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ الْمُغِيرَةِ

It was narrated from Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ got up at night to pray, he would brush his teeth with the siwak.

أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَبَّانَ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ عَمَّهُ وَاسِعَ بْنَ حَبَّانَ أَخْبَرَهُ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" عَلَى ظَهْرِ بَيْتِنَا "، فَرَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " جَالِسًا عَلَى لَبِنَتَيْنِ، مُسْتَقْبِلَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ "

It was narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Ten actions are from the natural disposition (fitrah): trimming the mustache, letting the beard grow, using the siwak, rinsing the nose, clipping the nails, washing the knuckles, plucking the armpit hair, shaving the pubic hair, and conserving water.' The narrator said: I forgot the tenth, but it may be rinsing the mouth.

أَخْبَرَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ :" جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى سُبَاطَةِ قَوْمٍ فَبَالَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ "، قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد : لَا أَعْلَمُ فِيهِ كَرَاهِيَةً

It was narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Three things are from the noble character: using the siwak, wearing perfume, and fasting.'

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا دَخَلَ الْخَلَاءَ، قَالَ :" اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ الْخُبْثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ "

It was narrated from Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Four things are from the practice of the Messengers: modesty, using perfume, using the siwak, and marriage.'

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ قُرْطٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا، قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" إِذَا ذَهَبَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الْغَائِطِ، فَلْيَذْهَبْ مَعَهُ بِثَلَاثَةِ أَحْجَارٍ يَسْتَطِيبُ، بِهِنَّ فَإِنَّهَا تُجْزِئُ عَنْهُ "

It was narrated from Wathilah ibn al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'I was commanded to use the siwak until I feared it would be revealed to me in the Quran.'

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيٌّ هُوَ ابْنُ مُسْهِرٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" ثَلَاثَةُ أَحْجَارٍ لَيْسَ مِنْهُنَّ رَجِيعٌ "، يَعْنِي : الِاسْتِطَابَةَ

It was narrated that Abd al-Rahman ibn Ghanam al-Ash'ari said: I asked Mu'adh ibn Jabal: 'What would you say if I use the siwak from after the Fajr prayer until the sun rises and the prayer time comes, then I perform ablution?' He said: 'I see nothing wrong with that. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The siwak is a purification for the mouth and pleasing to the Lord."'

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي الْمُخَارِقِ ، عَنْ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ مِنْ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ مَوْلَى سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهُ :" أَنْتَ رَسُولِي إِلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ ، فَقُلْ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكُمْ السَّلَامَ، وَيَأْمُرُكُمْ أَنْ لَا تَسْتَنْجُوا بِعَظْمٍ، وَلَا بِبَعْرَةٍ "، قَالَ أَبُو عَاصِمٍ مَرَّةً : وَيَنْهَاكُمْ أَو يَأْمُرُكُمْ

It was narrated from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'I have emphasized the siwak to you so much that I feared it would be made obligatory upon you.'

أَخْبَرَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، وَأَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ :" لَا يَمَسَّ أَحَدُكُمْ ذَكَرَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ، وَلَا يَتَمَسَّحْ بِيَمِينِهِ "

It was narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'No one performs ablution and completes his ablution properly, then prays two rak'ahs giving them their full due, except that Paradise becomes obligatory for him.'

حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ عَدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ ، عَنْ الْقَعْقَاعِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" إِنَّمَا أَنَا لَكُمْ مِثْلُ الْوَالِدِ لِلْوَلَدِ أُعَلِّمُكُمْ، فَلَا تَسْتَقْبِلُوا الْقِبْلَةَ، وَلَا تَسْتَدْبِرُوهَا، وَإِذَا اسْتَطَبْتَ، فَلَا تَسْتَطِبْ بِيَمِينِكَ "، وَكَانَ " يَأْمُرُنَا بِثَلَاثَةِ أَحْجَارٍ، وَيَنْهَى عَنْ الرَّوْثِ وَالرِّمَّةِ "، قَالَ زَكَرِيَّا : يَعْنِي : الْعِظَامَ الْبَالِيَةَ

It was narrated from Uqbah ibn Amir al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'No Muslim performs ablution and performs it well, then stands and prays two rak'ahs, turning his heart and face to Allah, except that Paradise becomes obligatory for him.'

أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ" إِذَا ذَهَبَ لِحَاجَتِهِ، أَتَيْتُهُ أَنَا وَغُلَامٌ بِعَنَزَةٍ، وَإِدَاوَةٍ فَيَتَوَضَّأُ "

It was narrated from Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever performs ablution and performs it well, then says: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger" — all eight gates of Paradise are opened for him and he may enter through whichever he wishes.'

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاذٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ" إِذَا خَرَجَ مِنْ الْخَلَاءِ، جَاءَ الْغُلَامُ بِإِدَاوَةٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ كَانَ يَسْتَنْجِي بِهِ "، قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد : أَبُو مُعَاذٍ اسْمُهُ عَطَاءُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةٍ

It was narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'There is no ablution for one who does not mention the name of Allah upon it.'

أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ ، عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ ذَرٍّ ، عَنْ الْمُسَيَّبِ بْنِ نَجَبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَتْنِي عَمَّتِي ، وَكَانَتْ تَحْتَ حُذَيْفَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ "أَنَّ حُذَيْفَةَ كَانَ يَسْتَنْجِي بِالْمَاءِ "

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'There is no prayer for one who has no ablution, and there is no ablution for one who does not mention the name of Allah over it.'

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، عَنْ أَبَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ مَوْلًى لِأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" ائْتِنِي بِوَضُوءٍ "، " ثُمَّ دَخَلَ غَيْضَةً فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِمَاءٍ فَاسْتَنْجَى، ثُمَّ مَسَحَ يَدَهُ بِالتُّرَابِ، ثُمَّ غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ "، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، مِثْلَهُ

It was narrated from Sa'id ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'There is no ablution for one who does not mention the name of Allah over it.'

أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا حَدَّثَتْهُ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَإِذَا خَرَجَ مِنْ الْخَلَاءِ، قَالَ : " غُفْرَانَكَ "

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Woe to the heels on the Day of Resurrection from the Fire!' He said this three times.

أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَسَّانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ الْحَبْحَابِ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ :" أَكْثَرْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي السِّوَاكِ "

It was narrated from Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Woe to the heels from the Fire!'

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ ، عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ الْحَبْحَابِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" أَكْثَرْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي السِّوَاكِ "

It was narrated from Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Woe to the heels from the Fire!' We used to see him ﷺ wash his foot and move his fingers between the toes.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ :" لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي، لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ بِهِ عِنْدَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ "، قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد : يَعْنِي : السِّوَاكَ

It was narrated from Khallad ibn al-Saaib al-Ansari, from his father (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Gabriel came to me and commanded me to raise my voice with the talbiyah, for it is among the symbols of Hajj.'

أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ هُوَ الْقَطْوَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنِي دَاوُدُ بْنُ الْحُصَيْنِ ، عَنْ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا، قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" السِّوَاكُ مَطْهَرَةٌ لِلْفَمِ، مَرْضَاةٌ لِلرَّبِّ "

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When you perform ablution, begin with your right side.' And in another narration: 'Begin with your right limbs when performing ablution.'

أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى التَّهَجُّدِ، يَشُوصُ فَاهُ بِالسِّوَاكِ "

It was narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ loved to start from the right in his purification when he purified himself, in his combing when he combed his hair, and in putting on his sandals.

أَخْبَرَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ :" لَا يَقْبَلُ اللَّهُ صَلَاةً بِغَيْرِ طُهُورٍ، وَلَا صَدَقَةً مِنْ غُلُولٍ "

It was narrated from Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him and his family) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution, washing each part three times. Then he said: 'Whoever adds more than this or does less has done wrong and been unjust.'

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" مِفْتَاحُ الصَّلَاةِ الطُّهُورُ، وَتَحْرِيمُهَا التَّكْبِيرُ، وَتَحْلِيلُهَا التَّسْلِيمُ "

It was narrated from Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about ablution. He ﷺ showed him how to perform it three times for each part, then said: 'This is the ablution. Whoever does more than this has done wrong, exceeded the limit, or done injustice.'

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو رَيْحَانَةَ ، عَنْ سَفِينَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" يَتَوَضَّأُ بِالْمُدِّ وَيَغْتَسِلُ بِالصَّاعِ "

It was narrated from Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ asking about ablution. The Prophet ﷺ showed him how to perform ablution three times and said: 'This is the ablution. Whoever adds to it has done wrong.'

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَبْرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا ، يَقُولُ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" يَتَوَضَّأُ بِالْمَكُّوكِ، وَيَغْتَسِلُ بِخَمْسِ مَكَاكِي "

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to the graveyard and said: 'Peace be upon you, O abode of a believing people. We will, if Allah wills, join you. I wish I had seen our brothers.' They said: 'Are we not your brothers, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'You are my companions. Our brothers are those who have not yet come.' They said: 'How will you recognize those of your community who have not yet come, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Do you not see that if a man had horses with white blazes on their faces and feet among dark horses, would he not recognize his horses?' They said: 'Of course, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'They will come on the Day of Resurrection with their ablution marks shining, and I will precede them to the Hawd. Some men will be driven away from my Hawd as a stray camel is driven away, and I will call out: "Come, come!" Then it will be said: "These people changed things after you." So I will say: "Away, away!"'

أَخْبَرَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ عَدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ ، عَنْ الرُّبَيِّعِ بِنْتِ مُعَوِّذِ بْنِ عَفْرَاءَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" يَأْتِينَا فِي مَنْزِلِنَا، فَآخُذُ مِيضَأَةً لَنَا تَكُونُ مُدًّا وَثُلُثَ مُدٍّ، أَوْ رُبُعَ مُدٍّ فَأَسْكُبُ عَلَيْهِ فَيَتَوَضَّأُ ثَلَاثًا ثَلَاثًا "

It was narrated from Amr ibn Yahya al-Mazini, from his father, that Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for a vessel of water, then poured it over his hands three times and washed them. Then he put his right hand into the vessel and rinsed his mouth and nose. Then he washed his face three times and his hands up to the elbows three times. Then he wiped his head. Then he washed his right foot three times, then his left foot three times. Then he said: 'I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution as I have just done.' Then he said: 'Whoever performs ablution as I have just done, then prays two rak'ahs without his mind wandering, Allah will forgive his previous sins.'

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا كَثِيرُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي رُبَيْحُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ :" لَا وُضُوءَ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَذْكُرْ اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ "

It was narrated from Humran, the freed servant of Uthman ibn Affan, that Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) called for water for ablution. He washed his hands three times, then rinsed his mouth and nose, then washed his face three times, then washed his right hand up to the elbow three times, then his left hand likewise, then wiped his head, then washed his right foot three times and his left foot three times. He then said: 'I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution as I have just performed it.' Then he recited this hadith about two rak'ahs and forgiveness of sins.

أَخْبَرَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، أَخْبَرَنِي النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَوْسٍ يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَوْسِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْسٍ أَنَّهُ ، رَأَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" تَوَضَّأَ، فَاسْتَوْكَفَ ثَلَاثًا "، فَقُلْتُ أَنَا لَهُ : أَيُّ شَيْءٍ اسْتَوْكَفَ ثَلَاثًا؟ قَالَ : غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا

It was narrated from Abd Khayr that Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him and his family) performed ablution in the courtyard of the mosque. He called for a vessel and washed his hands from it three times before putting them in the vessel. Then he rinsed his mouth and nose three times. Then he washed his face three times and washed his hands — meaning up to the elbows — three times each. Then he wiped his head once. Then he washed his feet three times each. He then said: 'I wanted to show you the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'

أَخْبَرَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهَمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ حُمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبَانَ مَوْلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ " أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ تَوَضَّأَ،فَمَضْمَضَ، وَاسْتَنْشَقَ، وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلَاثًا، وَيَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا، وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ، وَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأَ كَمَا تَوَضَّأْتُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوئِي هَذَا، ثُمَّ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ لَا يُحَدِّثُ فِيهِمَا نَفْسَهُ، غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ "

It was narrated from Abd Khayr al-Hamdani that Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him and his family) called for a vessel and poured water from it over his right hand three times before putting it into the vessel, then wiped his beard with a handful of water, then wiped his head with his wet hand once — going from front to back and then back to front — and washed his feet up to the ankles. He then said that this is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَسَّانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، وَخَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ يَحْيَى الْمَازِنِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ زَيْدٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ" دَعَا بِتَوْرٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ فَأَكْفَأَ عَلَى يَدَيْهِ فَغَسَلَهُمَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلَاثًا، وَيَدَيْهِ إِلَى الْمِرْفَقَيْنِ مَرَّتَيْنِ مَرَّتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَوَضَّأُ "، أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ يَحْيَى ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوًا مِنْهُ

It was narrated from Abd Khayr, from Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him and his family), that he said: 'I will show you the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' He then performed ablution washing each limb once, then said: 'This is the ablution of one who does not accept prayers except with it.'

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ :" أَلَا أُنَبِّئُكُمْ أَوْ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِوُضُوءِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ فَتَوَضَّأَ مَرَّةً مَرَّةً، أَوْ قَالَ : مَرَّةً مَرَّةً "

It was narrated from Abd Khayr, from Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him and his family), that he washed his face three times, washed his arms three times each, and wiped his head once. He said: 'I have shown you how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed his purification.'

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدَّرَاوَرْدِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" تَوَضَّأَ مَرَّةً مَرَّةً، وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَ الْمَضْمَضَةِ وَالِاسْتِنْشَاقِ "

It was narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Gabriel showed me the ablution and taught me the prayer: he washed his face, then his arms up to the elbows, then wiped his head, then washed his feet — doing each once.' He performed it a second time and said: 'This is the ablution; whoever adds to it or reduces it has done wrong.' He performed it a third time and said: 'This is the ablution of the Prophets.'

حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ عَدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَقِيلٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ يَقُولُ :" أَلَا أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى مَا يُكَفِّرُ اللَّهُ بِهِ الْخَطَايَا، وَيَزِيدُ بِهِ فِي الْحَسَنَاتِ؟ "، قَالُوا : بَلَى، قَالَ : " إِسْبَاغُ الْوُضُوءِ عَلَى الْمَكْرُوهَاتِ، وَكَثْرَةُ الْخُطَا إِلَى الْمَسَاجِدِ، وَانْتِظَارُ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ "، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ هُوَ ابْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، عَن أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَذَكَرَ بِنَحْوِهِ

It was narrated from Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) that he performed ablution, washing each limb once, then said: 'This is the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' Then he washed each limb twice and said: 'This is the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' Then he washed each limb three times and said: 'This is the ablution of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْجَهْضَمِ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ :" أُمِرْنَا بِإِسْبَاغِ الْوُضُوءِ "

It was narrated from Talhah ibn Mus'arrif, from his father, from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw the Prophet ﷺ performing ablution, wiping his head — going from front to back — once.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَلْقَمَةَ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ خَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : دَخَلَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ الرَّحَبَةَ بَعْدَمَا صَلَّى الْفَجْرَ، فَجَلَسَ فِي الرَّحَبَةِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِغُلَامٍ لَهُ : ائْتِنِي بِطَهُورٍ، قَالَ : فَأَتَاهُ الْغُلَامُ بِإِنَاءٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ وَطَسْتٍ، قَالَ عَبْدُ خَيْرٍ : وَنَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ نَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ " فَأَدْخَلَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى فَمَلَأَ فَمَهُ، فَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ، وَنَثَرَ بِيَدِهِ الْيُسْرَى، فَعَلَ هَذَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ "، ثُمَّ قَالَ :" مَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى طُهُورِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَهَذَا طُهُورُهُ "، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ الْمُرَادِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ خَيْرٍ بِإِسْنَادِهِ نَحْوَهُ

It was narrated from Abdullah ibn Zayd ibn Asim al-Mazini (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution. He first rinsed his mouth and nose, then washed his face three times and his hands up to the elbows three times. Then he wiped his head from front to back and then back to front. Then he washed his feet.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاق ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَائِذِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ :" مَنْ اسْتَنْشَقَ، فَلْيَسْتَنْثِرْ، وَمَنْ اسْتَجْمَرَ، فَلْيُوتِرْ "

It was narrated from Abdullah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution. He poured water from a vessel on his hands and washed them, then put his right hand into the vessel and rinsed his mouth and nose together three times with three scoops. Then he washed his face three times and his arms three times each. Then he inserted both hands and wiped his head — going forward with both hands and then back — once. Then he washed his feet.
