Hadith #452
Arabic Text
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاق ، عَنْ أَبَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، قَالَ : لَقَدْ عَرَضْتُ الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا ثَلَاثَ عَرَضَاتٍ، أَقِفُ عِنْدَ كُلِّ آيَةٍ أَسْأَلُهُ فِيمَ أُنْزِلَت
ْ، وَفِيمَ كَانَتْ؟، فَقُلْتُ : يَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، أَرَأَيْتَ قَوْلَ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى : # فَإِذَا تَطَهَّرْنَ فَأْتُوهُنَّ مِنْ حَيْثُ أَمَرَكُمُ اللَّهُ سورة البقرة آية 222 #، قَالَ :" مِنْ حَيْثُ أَمَرَكُمْ أَنْ تَعْتَزِلُوهُنَّ "

English Translation
It was narrated that a scholar said: 'I reviewed the Quran with Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) three times, stopping at every verse to ask him about when and why it was revealed. When I came to the verse "They ask you about menstruation," I asked and he explained the rulings on approaching wives after menstruation.'
