Arabic Text
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الرِّفَاعِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ ، يَقُولُ : كَانَتْ الْيَهُودُ لَا تَأْلُو مَا شَدَّدَتْ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ، كَانُوا يَقُولُ
ونَ : يَا أَصْحَابَ مُحَمَّدٍ ، إِنَّهُ وَاللَّهِ مَا يَحِلُّ لَكُمْ أَنْ تَأْتُوا نِسَاءَكُمْ إِلَّا مِنْ وَجْهٍ وَاحِدٍ، قَالَ : فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ : # نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ سورة البقرة آية 223 #" فَخَلَّى اللَّهُ بَيْنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَبَيْنَ حَاجَتِهِمْ "

English Translation
It was narrated from al-Hasan that he said: 'The Jews would spare no effort in making things difficult for Muslims. They used to say: "O Companions of Muhammad, by Allah it is not permissible to approach your wives from the front during menstruation." So the Companions asked the Prophet ﷺ about this and the verse of menstruation was revealed.'
