Chain of Narration (Isnad)

أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ

Body (Matn)

عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ، قَالَ :" كُنَّا نَغْزُو مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا لَنَا طَعَامٌ إِلا هذَا السَّمُرُ، وَوَرَقُ الْحُبْلَةِ، حَتَّى إِنَّ أَحَدَنَا لَيَضَعُ كَمَا تَضَعُ الشَّاةُ، مَالَهُ خِلْطٌ، ثُمَّ أَصْبَحَتْ بَنُو أَسَدٍ تُعَزِّرُنِي ! لَقَدْ خِبْتُ إِذَنْ وَضَلَّ عَمَلِيَهْ "

English Translation

Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'We used to campaign with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ having no food except for this samur tree and the leaves of the hubla plant, until one of us would excrete as a sheep excretes, having no covering for his thighs.'
