Arabic Text
أَخْبَرَنَا نُعَيْمُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، عَنْ بَحِيرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْن
ِ مَعْدَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَحْرِيَّةَ ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :" الْغَزْوُ غَزْوَانِ : فَأَمَّا مَنْ غَزَا ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ اللَّهِ وَأَطَاعَ الْإِمَامَ، وَأَنْفَقَ الْكَرِيمَةَ، وَيَاسَرَ الشَّرِيكَ وَاجْتَنَبَ الْفَسَادَ، فَإِنَّ نَوْمَهُ وَنُبْهَهُ أَجْرٌ كُلُّهُ، وَأَمَّا مَنْ غَزَا فَخْرًا وَرِيَاءً وَسُمْعَةً، وَعَصَى الْإِمَامَ، وَأَفْسَدَ فِي الْأَرْضِ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَرْجِعُ بِالْكَفَافِ "

English Translation
It was narrated from Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Campaigning is of two types: as for the one who seeks Allah's face, obeys the commander, gives generously of his wealth, treats his companions well, and avoids corruption — his entire sleep and wakefulness is a reward. And as for the one who campaigns for pride and fame, who disobeys the commander and causes corruption — he does not return equal.'
