Hadith #1790
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مِنْهَالٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ الْجَعْدِ : أَبِي عُثْمَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو رَجَاءٍ الْعُطَارِدِيُّ
، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَرْوِيهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ :" مَنْ رَأَى مِنْ أَمِيرِهِ شَيْئًا يَكْرَهُهُ، فَلْيَصْبِرْ، فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَحَدٍ يُفَارِقُ الْجَمَاعَةَ شِبْرًا، فَيَمُوتُ، إِلا مَاتَ مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً "

English Translation
It was narrated from Wathilah ibn al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Verily among the greatest of slanders is a man claiming to be from other than his true father or claiming to be in a tribe he does not belong to, or attributing to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what he did not say.'
