Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي يَعْلَى ، عَنْ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : خَطَّ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَ
يْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطًّا مُرَبَّعًا، ثُمَّ خَطَّ وَسَطَهُ خَطًّا، ثُمَّ خَطَّ حَوْلَهُ خُطُوطًا، وَخَطَّ خَطًّا خَارِجًا مِنَ الْخَطِّ، فَقَالَ :" هَذَا الْإِنْسَانُ لِلْخَطِّ الْأَوْسَطِ وَهَذَا الْأَجَلُ مُحِيطٌ بِهِ، وَهَذِهِ الْأَعْرَاضُ لِلْخُطُوطِ فَإِذَا أَخْطَأَهُ وَاحِدٌ نَهَشَهُ الْآخَرُ، وَهَذَا الْأَمَلُ لِلْخَطِّ الْخَارِجِ "

English Translation
It was narrated from Abdullah ibn Masud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet ☯ drew a square, a line through the middle, lines around it, and a line extending outside, saying: 'This is man; this square is his appointed term; these lines are the misfortunes that afflict him — if one misses him, another strikes him; and this external line is his hope.'
