Hadith #2243
Arabic Text
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ
عَنْ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ :" الْخَالَةُ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الْأُمِّ، وَالْعَمَّةُ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الْأَبِ، وَبِنْتُ الْأَخِ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الْأَخِ، وَكُلُّ ذِي رَحِمٍ بِمَنْزِلَةِ رَحِمِهِ الَّتِي يُدْلِي بِهَا إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ وَارِثٌ ذُو قَرَابَةٍ "

English Translation
It was narrated from Masruq, from Abdullah (ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: 'The maternal aunt is in the position of the mother, the paternal aunt is in the position of the father, the niece (brother's daughter) is in the position of the brother, and every person of kinship (dhawi al-arham) is in the position of the relative through whom they are connected — when there is no residual heir.'
